Here’s an interesting article from New Guy; Advice on Tollycraft :
Hi All,
I am new to boating. My wife daughter and I are hoping to buy a small cruiser for weekends out in the Gulf Islands around Vancouver. We live on the river just outside of the city, so great access to marinas etc.
I am looking at smaller cruisers 26′ to 32′. My criteria is basically that they have to be safe, fairly easy to handle, and have a comfortable cabin and decent head. We will be using it mainly for day trips and weekends out, so it has to have a berth, and a galley but does not have to be extravagant.
I would like to spend $30,000 or less.
The main problem is that there is a huge number of boats at that size and price point, I am a bit at a loss where to begin. I have looked at a couple of Tollycraft 26′ and really like the wide beam, flybridge and spacious but basic cabin set up. As these are older boats I have mainly looked for well kept ones that have been re-powered.
Any advice? Should I look at other boats as well, or now that I like the set-up of the Tolly should I find a nice one with a clean survey and make the leap?
Also, I am a ruthless mercenary on car price negotiations, same strategy for boats, it seems like a buyers market at present?
Thanks for any advice!!
